Ancient Roman Glass
Ancient Roman glass beads were made from vessel fragments that have been recovered from Roman glass found along the Silk Road in Afghanistan. The time of their manufacture dates all the way back to 500 B.C. - 1000 A.D. This was the area known as Bactria. The Romans used iron in the glass-making process which absorbed into the glass. Over time, bits and pieces of glass were buried. This created oxidization on the glass and made it more valuable. Also known as Ancient Afghan-Roman Glass. Most of the glass found has an iredecent sheen on the surface which makes every piece unique and different. Colors range from yellow, light green, dark green, brown and most rare dark blue.
